When elevated radon was discovered in this Hillsborough home, there was an added reason to address it: the homeowner's child was now living in the basement.
Following our free onsite consultation, we developed a basement mitigation plan with two goals - reduce the radon effectively and keep the system as unobtrusive as possible.
The basement presented an installation challenge. The best location for our extraction point was inside a small utility closet that already contained several other home systems. Rather than taking the easier route and bringing piping into the finished portion of the basement, we carefully worked within the available space and kept the extraction point tucked away in the utility area.
We carried that same approach to the exterior installation, routing the radon vent pipe alongside the home's existing gutter downspout so the system would blend in rather than become a prominent feature on the house.
Follow-up testing showed a radon level of just 1.3 pCi/L.
Effective radon mitigation is important, but we believe the details matter too. Whenever possible, we design our systems to work with the home—not against it.
