Dana contacted Triangle Radon Defense after a recent radon test revealed elevated radon levels in his home, even though a radon mitigation system had been installed several years earlier during the home buying process. Concerned about the safety of his indoor air quality, he reached out to our team for a professional evaluation.

Michael, our Radon Solutions Specialist, performed a detailed inspection of the existing radon mitigation system and determined the original suction point was poorly located, limiting sub-slab communication and reducing the system’s effectiveness. To improve radon reduction and overall system performance, we designed and installed a new radon mitigation system with a more centralized suction location to create better pressure field extension beneath the foundation.

To maintain the home’s curb appeal, we installed a black radon mitigation system and routed the vent pipe alongside the gutter for a clean, low-visibility appearance.

Now, Dana and his family can enjoy safer indoor air and peace of mind knowing their home is protected by an effective radon mitigation system professionally installed by Triangle Radon Defense.

Sometimes a radon mitigation system is installed, but the radon levels remain higher than expected. That's exactly what happened for this homeowner.

After receiving disappointing test results and becoming frustrated with the lack of professionalism from the company handling the testing, she contacted Triangle Radon Defense for a second opinion.

During our inspection, we found that the existing mitigation system was installed beneath a large, vented crawlspace with a loose, unsealed vapor barrier. Rather than creating a sealed collection area beneath the barrier, the original installer had simply extended multiple sections of 2-inch PVC beneath the plastic in an attempt to improve soil gas communication.

While creative, this approach could not effectively collect and control radon across such a large crawlspace.

After discussing several options with the homeowner, we recommended installing a sealed crawlspace barrier system. This approach would allow the mitigation system to create consistent negative pressure beneath the barrier, dramatically improving the system's effectiveness.

The existing fan was properly sized and remained in good condition, so we reused it while completely redesigning the piping beneath the crawlspace. Because the crawlspace exceeded approximately 3,000 square feet, we installed two strategically placed extraction points to provide better pressure distribution throughout the entire area.

The results spoke for themselves.

Even with the previous mitigation system operating, the home's radon level measured 4.9 pCi/L. After completing the new sealed crawlspace barrier system, follow-up testing showed the radon concentration had dropped to below 1.0 pCi/L.

Every home is different, and sometimes improving a radon system isn't about installing a larger fan, it's about designing the right system for the home's unique construction. That's exactly what we strive to do on every project.

Radon Fan Swap, Raleigh

Our client contacted us after noticing a loud noise coming from the fan on her existing radon mitigation system. The system had been installed previously by another company, so she reached out to us for a consultation. Michael inspected the system and quickly identified that the fan needed to be replaced.

While evaluating the system, we also noticed a few opportunities to improve its overall performance. Older mitigation systems don’t always meet today’s best practices, so we provided several recommendations to bring the system up to modern standards.

During the fan replacement, we discovered the source of the noise and unfortunately, a bird had entered the discharge pipe and become caught in the fan. This is exactly why every system we install includes a critter guard at the top of the discharge line to prevent animals from entering the pipe.

With the new fan installed and the recommended improvements made, the system is now operating quietly and effectively again, restoring proper radon mitigation and peace of mind for the homeowner.

Radon Mitigation & Indoor Air Quality Services in Raleigh, NC

Radon is one of the most overlooked risks in American homes. It is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that rises from the soil and enters through cracks in the foundation. You cannot see it, smell it, or taste it, but long-term exposure can be dangerous. The EPA lists radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., right behind smoking.

At Triangle Radon Defense, we specialize in helping homeowners in Raleigh understand their radon levels and take action when needed. Our team provides professional radon testing and custom radon mitigation systems, along with indoor air quality upgrades that improve comfort, health, and peace of mind.

If you're ready to take the next step toward a safer, healthier home, we're here to help. Reach out for a free estimate today.

Radon Testing & Mitigation You Can Count On

Triangle Radon Defense uses continuous radon monitors that track levels for at least 48 hours to give you accurate results. If readings come back above the EPA’s action level of 4.0 pCi/L, we’ll design and install a mitigation system tailored to your home’s foundation and layout.

Our radon testing & mitigation process includes:

  • Initial consultation and placement of a radon detector in your home
  • Review of results and customized mitigation plan if needed
  • Installation of a sub-slab depressurization system to pull radon from beneath your home
  • Sealing of any visible cracks or gaps to reduce radon entry points
  • Installation or replacement of a radon fan and piping system to vent radon outdoors

Job Stories From Raleigh, NC
Sealed Crawlspace Barrier System, Raleigh NC

When this homeowner first contacted us, she wasn't just concerned about her radon levels - she was frustrated.

She already had a mitigation system installed, yet her radon levels remained at 4.9 pCi/L. On top of that, she felt the testing company she had been working with was difficult to communicate with and didn't provide the level of professionalism she expected.

We started by performing a complete evaluation of her existing system.

The home featured a large vented crawlspace of roughly 3,000 square feet with a loose vapor barrier. Beneath the plastic, the original installer had routed several PVC pipes in different directions in an attempt to improve airflow, but because the barrier wasn't sealed, the system could never develop the consistent suction needed to effectively capture soil gases.

After reviewing the available options, we recommended upgrading to a sealed crawlspace barrier system.

We kept the existing mitigation fan, which was still appropriate for the application, but redesigned the entire collection system beneath the crawlspace. Two extraction points were installed to evenly depressurize the large crawlspace beneath the new sealed barrier.

Once everything was complete, the homeowner received the results she had hoped for.

Her radon level dropped from 4.9 pCi/L to below 1.0 pCi/L.

More importantly, she finally had confidence that her system was performing the way it should and that her family's indoor air was being protected.

Dana reached out to us after receiving elevated radon test results, despite having a mitigation system installed a few years earlier during the home buying process. Assuming the original system was functioning properly, the new test results came as a surprise.

Michael, our Radon Solutions Specialist, performed a detailed evaluation of the existing system and determined the original suction point was poorly located, limiting sub-slab communication and overall system performance. To improve pressure field extension and radon reduction, Michael designed a new system with a more centralized suction location.

To complement the home’s appearance, we installed a fully black mitigation system and routed the vent piping alongside the gutter for a clean, low-visibility finish.

Now, Dana and his family can enjoy greater peace of mind knowing their new radon mitigation system is operating effectively to improve their indoor air quality.

This homeowner reached out after noticing their personal radon monitor showing higher readings than normal. To confirm the concern, we completed a professional radon test which verified elevated levels in the home. Wanting to address the issue promptly and ensure long-term safety, they decided to move forward with a full radon mitigation system.

During our walkthrough, we discussed the exterior layout and how the system would be visible from the side yard. The homeowner opted for our aesthetics package, which includes a clean fan enclosure that helps the system blend in and maintain the home’s curb appeal. Once installation began, our technician worked through reinforced concrete to create a proper extraction point, installed the fan and alarm within the enclosure, and completed all PVC routing with a clean, professional finish.

The final system looks great, performs exactly as intended, and provides the homeowner with peace of mind knowing their radon levels are now safely reduced.
